Finance Guru: Not impossible to find West Ham United sponsor upgrade after BetWay deal news
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...
Dan Plumley has insisted that West Ham United must be looking for an upgrade on their current sponsorship deal, although it won’t be easy.
News has emerged that the Hammers are looking at ending their agreement with BetWay early, as rules on betting partnerships get set to change in the near future.
Finance Guru, Plumley, admitted that West Ham must have something happening behind the scenes already with it not being impossible given how much the club has to offer.
“I think this is a really interesting one,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.
“All of the numbers that we’ve seen throughout the past with this would suggest not, it’s pitched where West Ham’s deal is the best of the rest, and to get that elsewhere, means you’re actually upgrading on the companies that you do business with.
“If West Ham are to command a higher deal here, then they’ve got to have something happening behind-the-scenes where they’re looking at an upgrade in the market, and if they are doing that, we know Karren Brady is very business-savvy and looking at the markets they want to operate in, then they must have a deal here that they think is going to be worth more than the BetWay deal.
“It’s not impossible, it’s interesting as it’s not what we’ve seen in the past, and the nature of the club, the history, the fan base, the geographical location, the European runs, it is an attractive club to sponsor.
“If they’re looking at this, they must be looking at an upgrade in the types of business they want to deal with.”
This is where Karren Brady may really prove her worth, once again.
Changes are coming at West Ham United, that is for sure, and it may happen sooner rather than later given the news that keeps appearing in recent weeks and months.
