West Ham Women could announce the signing of Iceland international Svava Gudmunsdottir this weekend, West Ham Zone has been told.
Paul Konchesky is looking to reshape his squad during the January window with Grace Garrad, Alex Hennessy, Claudia Walker and Thea Kyvåg all leaving Victoria Road.
West Ham Zone has since been told by a source close to the Irons that Gudmunsdottir is heading to London with the WSL club potentially set to announce multiple new signings over the weekend.
The SK Brann Kvinner striker has already said her goodbyes to her teammates ahead of her potential move to the Women’s Super League (Instagram).
West Ham have also been linked with Angel City’s midfielder Miri Taylor (Sunday Times, Molly Hudson, 30 December). Liverpool are also understood to have shown an interest in the 22-year-old.
The Irons currently sit fifth in the Women’s Super League after an excellent start to the 2022/23 season. A gap has emerged between Konchesky’s side and the top four teams, and the Hammers will be looking to strengthen over the next month to give themselves the best chance of gate-crashing the upper echelons of the table.
Interestingly, the Irons face a huge fixture against fourth-placed Manchester City in their next fixture. A win will take Konchesky’s side to within one point of Gareth Taylor’s side.
West Ham went into the midseason off the back of an excellent 2-0 victory over Tottenham after suffering a disappointing loss to Liverpool. The next couple of fixtures against City and Everton will have a big influence on the Hammers’ aspirations come the end of the season.
