Exclusive: Frank McAvennie predicts result of West Ham clash v Stockport
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie has backed West Ham United to breeze past Stockport County in the third round of the FA Cup on Monday evening.
The former Hammer believes that the Irons will walk away from Edgeley Park with a 3-0 victory, although he admits it could easily be more.
David Moyes will be considering some changes, but McAvennie wants the boss to make a statement of intent with an experienced starting XI.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said, “Listen, it’s West Ham, normally, you would say four or five.
“I think they’ll do a professional job, they will get three goals anyway. I just hope David remembers what it’s like to be a fan and puts a strong team out.
“I know he doesn’t put teams out to lose, but forget the young kids. Put a strong team out and get us a cup run.”
This is a must-win for the Hammers.
After crashing out against lower-league opposition such as West Brom and Gillingham in recent years of the FA Cup, we would love a run to the final stages this season.
Stockport haven’t exactly been in the best of form, winning only one of their four games after Christmas, with their latest clash postponed against Eastleigh.
The Hammers have been in great form, and Moyes will want to keep those players responsible for that in that positive run – meaning McAvennie’s wish of a strong side could come true at Edgeley Park.
