Exclusive: McAvennie feels sorry for Snodgrass over lack of West Ham game-time
We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Frank McAvennie feels sorry for Robert Snodgrass with the winger not getting many opportunities on the pitch for West Ham this season.
Snodgrass, 33, has barely kicked a ball for the Irons this season, earning just one appearance off the bench in the Premier League which came in the 3-3 draw with Tottenham in October.
He started all three Carabao Cup games, scoring two goals and supplying one assist in them, but has barely featured in David Moyes’ Premier League plans this term.
McAvennie wants to see more of Snodgrass and believes his fellow Scot can slot into Moyes’ system with the way he’s setting out his side right now.
“I feel sorry for Snodgrass because he’s not getting a chance,” McAvennie told West Ham Zone.
“It’s a shame but I don’t think it would change much on the left-hand side if he comes in because he works his socks off. He puts a shift in.”
Whenever a team does well, there are players in that team who become a victim of success and Snodgrass is one of them.
Moyes cannot justify making changes to his starting line-up right now because the Hammers are performing so well.
In their last seven Premier League matches, reigning champions Liverpool are the only team who have beaten them.
Moyes has only made changes when forced into doing so during that run so we don’t see how someone like Arthur Masuaku or Pablo Fornals can miss out to accommodate the former Hull man at the minute.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes has shared his European ambition for the Hammers.
