Exclusive: Keith Hackett slams Jon Moss lack of control in West Ham draw v Arsenal
We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League referee Keith Hackett as our exclusive West Ham columnist, each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…
Keith Hackett has slammed Jon Moss for his handling of the game towards the end of the 3-3 draw between West Ham and Arsenal on Sunday.
There were three yellow cards handed out after the 88th minute at the London Stadium, something has been deemed unnecessary.
Hackett believes that the attention was switched to Moss rather than the quality on show between the Irons and their London rivals.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, Hackett said, “What’s that about?
“I don’t see the point. I think that it detracts from what the referee is expected to do, and that is to control the players.
“In that point, a team pressing for a win might influence that but for me, there were some unnecessary yellow cards, a man of his stature and experience ought to be able to manage the outcome and ending of a game without that.
“He brought the focus on him rather than on the quality of the play. I think that’s a poor piece of refereeing.”
Hackett is spot on with his verdict.
In a game where there is bound to be counter-attacks due to both sides wanting to steal the three points, there has to be an expectancy that fouls will be made.
Moss branding cards left, right and centre is only disrupting the flow of the clash and is showering the attention on himself, rather than the incredible action.
David Moyes was angered by the officiating after the draw, and that was expected given the numerous wrong calls made yet again by a referee in the Premier League.
