Exclusive: Frank McAvennie delighted with West Ham return of Michail Antonio

We’re delighted to welcome former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium…

Frank McAvennie is delighted with the return of West Ham United forward Michail Antonio after his latest hamstring injury.

The striker returned to the matchday squad against Southampton and was brought off the bench for the final 15 minutes in the 0-0 draw.

Sebastien Haller was replaced that night, and McAvennie believes that the quicker he returns to the bench the better.

Speaking exclusively to West Ham News, McAvennie said, “The most important thing for me is that Antonio is back in the frame.

“The sooner they put Haller back on the bench the better, for me, because he’s not helping the team. He just wants to score goals, but Antonio also wants to help the team.”

Haller has struggled since earning his starting spot at the London Stadium, and will be concerned over his role in the side with Antonio returning.

The Ivorian hasn’t earned the right to keep his spot though, only scoring twice against Sheffield United and more recently, Crystal Palace.

Antonio has scored the same number of goals as Haller, despite playing seven games and 332 minutes fewer in the Premier League.

David Moyes won’t want to rush him though, and Friday’s clash against Everton could be Hallers’ final chance to impress while starting.
