Ex-FIFA ref shares instant reaction to wild Chelsea vs West Ham scenes, this is what’ll happen next
West Ham let slip a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to Chelsea on a day that saw a number of visiting players lose their heads at Stamford Bridge.
Joao Pedro, Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandes – in the 92nd minute – cancelled out Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville goals from the first half.
That was not where the drama ended, however, as Jean-Clair Todibo was sent off as a brawl broke out late on at Stamford Bridge.
A number of players clashed, but Todibo was the only player dismissed by referee Anthony Taylor as he had his hands around the neck of Joao Pedro.
Adama Traore was cautioned for his part in the melee, meanwhile, as was Joao Pedro, with both sides now set to be in trouble.
Keith Hackett expects Chelsea and West Ham to face FA charge
It is fair to say West Ham’s 3-2 loss to Chelsea provided its fair share of drama – even if it was at the expense of the Hammers.
Todibo will now serve a three-match ban for West Ham as he was shown a straight red card by Taylor, who reached into his back pocket after reviewing the footage on the pitchside monitor.
Beyond that, though, West Ham and Chelsea are set to be fined.
That is the view of former FIFA referee Keith Hackett, who exclusively told West Ham Zone immediately after the incident: “It was the correct decision to issue a red card to Todibo for the violent act of grabbing his opponent around the throat.

“Both clubs will now be charged for failing to control their players. This is yet another ending to a game that tarnishes the image of the Premier League.”
West Ham collapse after 40-year first
West Ham took a two-goal lead in an away game against Chelsea for the first time since 1986, yet it was not enough.
The Hammers went on to win that previous game 40 years ago 4-0, but it was heartbreak for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side this time around.
| Tackles | 8 |
| Blocks | 1 |
| Clearances | 23 |
| Goals conceded | 3 |
Quite how the Irons failed to see out the win – or at the very least a draw – is anyone’s guess.
It marks the first time Chelsea have ever won a Premier League game from two goals behind at half-time.
West Ham would have been two points from safety had they seen out the win, but as it is they are five adrift of Nottingham Forest, who play their game in hand against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
