David Moyes stance shared as West Ham United return already mooted
Frank McAvennie does not believe David Moyes would return to West Ham but admitted that “nothing surprises” him in football anymore.
New head coach Julen Lopetegui is already under pressure following the dreadful start to the 2024/25 campaign, leaving them three points above the Premier League relegation zone after five games.
Just moments after the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday 21 September, Moyes was already been linked with a shock return to the London Stadium, having left his post during the summer.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone, McAvennie said: “You could call him Anthony Joshua… He made it three in a row but I’m not sure David Moyes could. We’ve spoken about it before, and I thought it was time for him to go.
“Some people didn’t want him to go. What they wanted was to see him take the traps off and let the players play football – they would have been happy with that. He won games, like he always said, and he did brilliantly but that’s gone now.
“However, nothing surprises me in football anymore. I didn’t think he’d come back the second time. He knows the club inside and out but it’d be strange if he came back now.”
David Moyes return ruled out at West Ham United?
While Moyes has proven time and time again that the grass is not always greener on the other side, there is no way back for the Hammers now.

Lopetegui has already stamped his mark on the squad, bringing multiple new faces through the London Stadium doors, but the Spaniard still needs time to bring his squad up to speed with his tactics.
Fans are understandably frustrated by the team’s current form, with three losses in their opening five league games, but there is plenty of time for fortunes to be turned around.
