Dan Plumley reacts to West Ham United partnership with PEAKDEFI

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...

Dan Plumley has insisted that West Ham United partnering with PEAKDEFI is not a good look, something they will now have to deal with the consequences for.

The Daily Mail has reported that the Irons are endorsing the company that are openly promoting its services in Russia, despite the government threat of wider concerns over the Ukraine War.

Plumley admitted that the Crypto angle of companies is seen as preying on fans, with their statement coming out somewhat covering their backs initially.

“It’s not a great look is it,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.

“I know West Ham have said they are looking into it on the back of the news story, but it’s just one of those that it doesn’t look great all around. You’ve got the crypto angle and you’ve got the narrative around what that has brought into football by preying on fans a little bit.

“Then, you’ve got the Russian angle which again with the current situation looks even worst. So, the optics are not great for West Ham, and it’s that kind of thing where there is no one breaking the law, and they have put out the risks to do with crypto as part of their statements so they’ve covered their backs that way.

“You look at it and given everything that has come out, it doesn’t look great and now West Ham have got to deal with that.”

Big deals are always needed to help clubs such as West Ham United financially.

No doubt, this partnership could bring in bid funds, but they have to be right for the club and the look, something that this one couldn’t be clearer isn’t.

Negatives are already coming out about PEAKDEFI with little research, so this one looks to be far from over, let’s hope that GSBK don’t live to regret this one further down the line.
