West Ham United are said to be interested in signing Kieran Trippier from Newcastle United – but could it all be smoke and mirrors?
As was reported by The Telegraph on Wednesday (7 August), West Ham are considering a move for Trippier.
It’s a story that came somewhat out of the blue, but certainly sticks with the idea that the club are trying to be as busy as possible during the transfer window.
But it does feel a little like the sudden nature of the rumour means something else is at play.
There are sure to be some behind the scenes at the London Stadium who want to make it happen. In reality, though, it does feel like a smokescreen for something else – and it’s the man they’ve been chasing for quite some time.
Kieran Trippier rumours a smokescreen for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to West Ham?
We all know that West Ham are interested in Aaron Wan-Bissaka. At this point, even if you’re not a football fan you probably know it. They’ve had an intense chase for the Manchester United defender but in recent days, there’s been some cause for concern.
That’s because the defender has reportedly asked for some kind of pay out deal to be struck with the Red Devils (The Sun, 6 August). There’s no guarantee that this has served as a stumbling block but in equal measure, this is a deal that’s been dragging on for quite a while.
Don’t get it wrong, Trippier would be a fantastic signing in his own right. From an age point of view, however, Wan-Bissaka is seven years younger than the former Tottenham mann. If he wants longevity, then Lopetegui is better off sticking to his original plan.
You can’t help but wonder are there other factors at play here to ensure the Wan-Bissaka deal gets over the line?
