West Ham United have new hero as stunning James Ward-Prowse Premier League statistics emerge

West Ham fans were left with plenty of worries when club captain and midfield maestro Declan Rice left for Arsenal this summer.

But those worries have been eased massively by the arrivals of duo James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez from Southampton and Ajax respectively.

While both have had very positive impacts in their brief spells in claret and blue, it is the former that is dominating most of the headlines in the early stages of the new season.

And that is because of his superb impact in the final third, with the midfielder boasting a goal and three assists from his three Hammers matches so far.

Those statistics have earned him a spot in West Ham history, with the ex-Southampton man becoming the first player to either score or assist a goal in each of his first three Premier League appearances for the club, as per OptaJoe (1 September).

The statistic has emerged after Ward-Prowse assisted Kurt Zouma’s goal in the 2-1 win against Luton Town on Friday (1 September).

And that assist, as per OptaJoe (1 September), means he has assisted 17 goals from dead ball situations in the Premier League over the last five seasons, more than any other player.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold (12) is his nearest competitor, with Manchester United’s Mason Mount up next with 11.

The former Saints captain has been key to his new club’s superb start to the season, with the East London outfit currently sitting in the top four after their four matches.

With three wins and one draw so far, the London Stadium outfit are two points behind leaders Manchester City.

In other West Ham news, pundit Paul Merson has shared a ridiculous verdict on new Hammers midfielder Ward-Prowse.
