West Ham ‘preparing for relegation’ after latest news from London Stadium

West Ham have already turned their attention to the summer transfer window, and things aren’t looking particularly positive.

West Ham have nothing left to play for in the Premier League aside from their own pride, meaning they will have one eye on decisions to be made in the summer.

Recruitment will be key for West Ham to right their wrongs from the current campaign and progress on the pitch next season.

However, some of the transfer links have been nothing short of baffling, and if true, a relegation battle could be coming to the London Stadium next time out.

Southampton raid makes no sense for West Ham

Firstly, a decision will have to be made on the future of Graham Potter, with his inability to influence much since his appointment in January.

However, West Ham need to recruit smartly in the summer regardless of who is in charge, and amid links to several Southampton players, there will be concerns.

Kyle Walker-Peters is the latest to be linked with West Ham, with names such as Aaron Ramsdale and Taylor Harwood-Bellis also mooted for a switch to the Irons.

Southampton are already relegated.

Taking into account that Southampton are already relegated, and will be going into the history books as one of the worst Premier League teams in history, it makes no sense for a team to be planning a ride on a squad that has significantly underperformed this season.

West Ham need to assign players capable of improving their starting 11, and then there would be genuine, valid concerns as to whether those linked would have the ability to do that.

West Ham need to get things right this summer

With the foundations of the current squad, matched with the recent success, there was no excuse for West Ham to have endured such a poor season.

If that is the change next campaign, summer planning has to be done perfectly, and there can’t be any margin for error.

Focus for now will be on finishing the current season on a high, but they can’t afford to let that distract them from what will be a huge summer ahead.
