West Ham must release Nathan Trott after failed Ligue 2 loan spell

West Ham United sent promising goalkeeper Nathan Trott out to France for a year in the summer but things haven’t gone to plan.

The 23-year-old ended up with AS Nancy in Ligue 2 and was hoping that a good season in the French second division might have seen him in with a shout of being involved at the London Stadium.

David Moyes would have been hoping the same but after what has happened this season, the boss has to get him gone as soon as possible.

Nancy currently sit bottom of the Ligue 2 table and have already been relegated to the third division for next season and Trott hasn’t played his part well enough to stop the rot.

In his 22 games in the league this season, Trott has kept a dismal three clean sheets and shipped 45 into his own net in the process [Transfer Markt].

Moyes already has Lukasz Fabianski as his number one and he has been relatively unchallenged since the Scot arrived at the club.

Alphonse Areola is the Hammers’ European and domestic cup number one though having joined on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer and the Irons have a £10million option to buy in the loan agreement.

You would think that is a no-brainer for the club with recently-promoted Fulham sniffing around to bring him back to Craven Cottage next season.

If Trott had performed wonders for Nancy and helped them at the very least stay in the division, then Moyes might have had a reason for keeping him around the club for a bit longer.

But the relegation that is now permanently on his CV should be the final nail in his West Ham coffin and he needs to be turfed out for good.
