West Ham might have to make unpopular transfer decision after new update

West Ham supporters are undoubtedly feeling underwhelmed halfway through the first campaign under head coach Julen Lopetegui.

It was hoped that the Spaniard would improve the style of football at the London Stadium, although this has not been the case with many players struggling to shine under the new boss.

After a 5-0 defeat at the hands of league leaders Liverpool (29 December), there have been renewed questions over the future of Lopetegui at The London Stadium although it seems the club’s hierarchy are opting to stick beside him for now.

With this in mind, the January transfer window will be a big one for the 58-year-old and it is vital he makes the necessary additions to turn his side’s form around in the New Year.

However, it has been reported [Jason Burt] that the Hammers will have to sell players first if they want to bring people in, which leaves some tough decisions to be made in East London.

Mohammed Kudus could leave West Ham

If the Hammers are looking to bring in new faces in January to boost their efforts in the rest of the campaign, then it will mean the Hammers have to prepare to lose people from their side too.

Although Mohammed Kudus has been a rare bright spark in the Irons side this term, Lopetegui may have to accept losing him in order to raise funds that can be re-invested.

The forward has been linked with a move away in the upcoming transfer window with the likes of Liverpool reportedly interested [Sacha Tavolieri] in gaining the 24-year-old’s services for the remainder of the campaign.

Although this is not the transfer that supporters will want to see happen in the upcoming window, those making the decisions at the London Stadium may have to look at the bigger picture and decide if the loss can be outweighed with additions.

It is difficult to imagine any club could come up the money required to tempt West Ham to sell, that is undoubtedly true. But if they did then an exit might not be out of the question.

The Irons find themselves in a difficult position going into the New Year and it is vital for both Lopetegui and David Sullivan that they get their business spot on.

In other West Ham news, Tony Cottee has been left raging about a decision from the Hammers’ board.
