View: Healey would shock the Premier League if he came to West Ham

West Ham are running out of time and options in their bid to sign a striker in the January transfer window and their latest search has led them to Rhys Healey.

According to Dharmesh Sheth from Sky Sports, the 27-year-old is second in line on their shortlist of strikers with Stade Reims’ Huge Ekitike still the main target.

Healey is currently enjoying a fine season at Ligue 2 club Toulouse and has lots of previous experience in England at various levels of the footballing pyramid.

He is currently the top scorer in the French second division, including a four-goal haul against FC Sochaux but he hasn’t found the net in any of his last five games.

The Welshman has 30 goals for Toulouse having only joined the club in 2020 from Milton Keynes Dons.

Maybe his footballing CV isn’t the amazing list of clubs Hammers fans hoped for but there are still much worse options available.

He may have only played four Premier League games in his career, all at Cardiff City, but that shouldn’t be the defining factor West Ham focus on here.

Since hopping across the English Channel to Toulouse, his all-round game has come on leaps and bounds and he is now playing at his full potential.

He isn’t going to waltz into the London Stadium and bench Michail Antonio and you would imagine he knows that already but he could be a secret weapon.

He isn’t necessarily the quickest or strongest or even tallest player but his eye for goal is as good as anyone’s and given the chance, he scores.

That is the ideal player to be bringing off the bench and he could win you points that would be vital come the end of the season, turning a number of heads as he does so.

Even if he doesn’t perform to his best, he is still a striker that can do a job and give Antonio a much-needed rest every now and then because he needs it.

In other West Ham news, the club may well sell this defender if a reasonable offer is received.
