Tim Steidten to be on red alert as Jonathan David exit update shared after West Ham United links
West Ham United supporters couldn’t have been much happier with their club’s business during the summer transfer window.
Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten combined to help the Hammers strengthen almost every area of the playing squad left behind by David Moyes at the end of last season.
Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo have provided some much-needed depth in defence, Guido Rodriguez has impressed in midfield and Crysencio Summerville carries plenty of promise.
While Niclas Fullkrug was the man to arrive at the London Stadium, Lille striker Jonathan David was also known to be on the Hammers’ radar as they looked to secure a new number nine [Florian Plettenberg, 25 June].
While a move for the Candian international didn’t come to fruition, a new update around his situation in Ligue 1 will have certainly perked the interest of Steidten and his recruitment team.
Will Jonathan David leave Lille after West Ham transfer rumours?
According to CaughtOffside (17 September), the forward has shown little sign that he is at all interested in putting pen to paper on a new deal in France, with his current contract due to expire at the end of the season.
Although that will have come as good news to the Irons, Premier League rivals Arsenal are also thought to be keeping close tabs on David as they look for opportunities to bolster their attacking ranks.
The Gunners aren’t alone in holding an interest in the 24-year-old, with Juventus, AC Milana and Inter Milan all also believed to be keeping an eye on the striker’s contract situation at Lille.
Although David has shown little intention of penning a new contract, an extension hasn’t yet been ruled out and the Canada international is believed to be keeping all his options open at this moment in time.
Julen Lopetegui to make London Stadium transfer decision
If the Hammers do remain interested in securing the 24-year-old’s signature, either in January or next summer, they could well have to move quickly to be able to beat some of Europe’s biggest clubs to his services.

West Ham aren’t expected to have loads of money to spend in the January window, but the chance to bring David to the London Stadium on a free transfer next season could well appeal.
Ultimately, it is now a case of waiting to see what decision the striker makes over his future in Lille. If he decides to pen an extension, hopes of a move to East London may have vanished.
If a deal remains unsigned, who knows what could happen?
