Potter would win West Ham fans over with signing of Ligue 1 ace
West Ham United have struggled to find a striker who can carry out the performances needed for a Premier League side on a consistent basis.
The Hammers may have been carried by both Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus last season but with the former ruled out due to injury and the latter struggling for the consistency he showed last season, it feels like West Ham are stuck.
Graham Potter recently took over the role as Hammers boss after Julen Lopetegui was relieved of his duties and while his debut game against Aston Villa didn’t quite go to plan with a 2-1 loss, it feels like this could be the new lease of life the London Stadium outfit needed.
However, with Niclas Fullkrug now out injured again, their need for a new number nine has never been more prominent than what it is now.
Which is why it isn’t a surprise to see Potter’s men reignite their interest in Nice striker Gaetan Laborde [Foot Mercato, 10 January].
Why would the transfer of Gaetan Laborde help Potter win West Ham fans over?
While the striker may be 30 years old and by no means a long-term solution for the Hammers, with his goal-scoring record over this season, it feels like he’d be a solid addition.
In the 16 games he’s played across all competitions, the attacker has scored six goals and assisted his teammates twice.
And, the fact he moved to Nice in 2021 for a fee worth around £12.5million shows that a deal might not cost the Hammers all that much [Transfer Feed].

At the moment, it feels likely that Danny Ings will take up the striker role within the squad but if Potter wants to get fans behind him, it feels like a new face needs to be brought in to lead his attacking line.
The Frenchman would be an impressive coup for West Ham and, with him still being able to bang in the goals, he could be exactly what Potter and his mean need to turn their campaign around.
