Harry Maguire set to miss West Ham v Manchester United, injury timescale set
West Ham United have received a boost ahead of their match with Manchester United after Harry Maguire confirmed he will face “a few weeks” on the sidelines.
The Hammers ended a four-match winless run in the Premier League with a resounding 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town at the London Stadium on Saturday [5 October].
Julen Lopetegui will face a tough return to club football after the international break with a trip to Tottenham before hosting Manchester United in East London the following week.
However, the Irons could face Man United without Maguire after he confirmed on his Instagram account [8 October] he is set to face a few weeks recovering from an injury sustained in the 0-0 draw with Aston Villa.
He said: “Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend, will be a few weeks on the sideline for me but I’ll comeback stronger.”
West Ham are due to host Man United at the London Stadium on October 27, which is less than the “few weeks” Maguire predicted.
West Ham United must use momentum to tackle tricky fixture run
Maguire’s potential absence will be welcomed by Lopetegui given the Red Devils’ injury issues at the back this season, which has even seen Jonny Evans deputise.
The Spaniard has eased the pressure on his long-term future in East London with the win against Ipswich. However, the feel-good feeling around the London Stadium can quickly be erased with two tough fixtures awaiting after the international break.
Tottenham and Man United have endured poor starts in the Premier League compared to their usual standards but, on paper, both sides can make easy work of the Hammers should the side perform to the standard the supporters have become acquitted to under Lopetegui.

The Irons faithful will be pleased to see attacking trio Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen back amongst the goals, but easily dispatching newly-promoted opposition would have been expected before the commencement of the new season.
Considering the game became a must-win encounter for Lopetegui is telling of how his start to life in East London has panned out thus far.
West Ham must give a good account of themselves in the matches ahead before all the hard work to return to winning ways is erased and the new boss returns to square one.
In other West Ham news, Tim Steidten must work his transfer magic at the Hammers amid Liverpool and Omar Marmoush development.
