Danny Ings last-minute exit now imminent at West Ham United after Julen Lopetegui call

West Ham United have been busier than most Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window, but there is still work to be done before the 30 August deadline.

While Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten’s focus for the majority of the summer has been on incomings, the time has now come to begin shifting some exit-linked players out of the London Stadium sooner rather than later.

One man who is expected to call time on his spell in East London before the window slams shut is former England international Danny Ings.

The Hammers are understood to have informed the striker that he has no future under Lopetegui and have therefore entered talks to attempt to terminate his contract sooner rather than later [TBR Football, 26 August].

Several Championship sides are understood to be in the hunt to secure his signature, with both Leeds United and Burnley in the race for his services as they look to return to the Premier League [Darren Witcoop, 26 August].

While no official update has yet emerged from West Ham, a new decision from Irons’ boss Lopetegui may suggest that an exit for Ings is imminent in the coming hours.

Will Danny Ings exit West Ham United amid Leeds United transfer rumours?

Despite rotating his squad heavily for the Carabao Cup win over Bournemouth on Wednesday (28 August) there was no place for Ings in the Hammers’ matchday squad.

With Nical Fullkrug chosen to lead the line, it was Michail Antonio who took a place on the bench ahead of the Englishman who couldn’t even force his way in among the substitutes.

Ings has featured in both of West Ham’s opening two Premier League squads this season and his omission from the team to face the Cherries in the League Cup could suggest his future may well be resolved sooner rather than later.

Although it isn’t quite clear where the forward will end up this summer, it is clear that he doesn’t have a future at the London Stadium.

In an ideal world the Hammers would pocket a fee for his services, but getting his wage off of the books alone would be a step in the right direction.
