West Ham United takeover rumours ‘nonsense’ as ‘top source’ weighs in

Talk of West Ham United undergoing a takeover in the coming months is “simply nonsense”, according to Claret and Hugh.

Neil Moxley wrote in the Sunday People [1 January, page 49] that David Gold and David Sullivan were “motoring ahead” with talks that could see them sell their stake in the football club.

But those reports have supposedly been quashed with a “top source” confirming to Claret and Hugh that it is not true and a sale of West Ham United is not at all close.

“There are no discussions currently taking place over a proposed sale of the club, and any suggestion that a deal is close are simply nonsense,” Dave Langton wrote for C&H.

“Of course, it is impossible to rule out a potential sale eventually but to suggest that it is going to happen soon is just not the case.”

Stay or go

Hanging around and not making their minds up is the very worst thing that Gold and Sullivan could do right now with the January transfer window open and David Moyes in need of security from the powers above.

Lingering would just cause even more chaos than has already ensued this season so they either have to sell up immediately or come out publicly and say they have no interest in doing so.

Daniel Kretinsky will be hoping for the former to happen as he is understandably keen to become the majority shareholder at the London Stadium but Gold and Sullivan have always remained keen for that not to happen.

If Moxley’s report has any ring of truth to it, then a sale will surely come very soon with the impending threat of relegation likely to see the price of the club plummet but if Gold and Sullivan are adamant, there will be no changing their minds.
