West Ham have PSR get out of jail card for new transfers before 3 February
West Ham can afford to spend on transfers in the winter window, Kieran Maguire has said.
Graham Potter’s squad is in desperate need of reinforcements as the former Chelsea manager attempts to salvage the season after the dismal reign of Julen Lopetegui.
The Hammers spent over £100million in the summer window but signings such as Niclas Fullkrug and Crysencio Summerville have not worked out at the London Stadium.
Speaking on the Babbling Irons podcast (16 January), Maguire shared the one thing saving the Irons financially, saying: “You have sort of got a Declan Rice-shaped get-out-of-jail-free card for three seasons on the back of that sale.
“From a PSR perspective, West Ham have made a profit of £51 million over the last three years, you can lose £105m, that is after adjusting for your academy costs, women’s team, community.
“You can probably add onto that figure of £51m, I think you can probably get close to doubling it, so, is there the capacity to spend? Yes.”
West Ham need additions to save their season
The Hammers picked up their first win under Potter on 14 January with a 3-2 victory over Fulham to move up to 12th in the Premier League.
However, the new manager needs signings if he is to spark a rise up the table towards the European qualification spaces.
For that to happen, Tim Steidten and Potter’s new recruitment team need to ensure that the players that they target can make an instant impact.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man is under severe pressure to redeem himself after a dismal summer window left the Hammers lacking on the pitch and hindered Lopetegui.
The Irons need a new attacker as Fullkrug is ruled out for three months and could also do with additions in midfield and defence.
The update from Maguire will be encouraging for Hammers supporters as they are desperate for their club to invest in the winter transfer market.
In other West Ham news, the Irons have been urged to recall a loan star by a former player.
