Finance Expert reacts to West Ham United and David Sullivan outburst on Sky Sports
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive West Ham United columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the London Stadium...
Dan Plumley has insisted that it is clear that Premier League clubs do not want independent regulation as David Sullivan exploded on Sky Sports News.
The finance expert admitted that it is no surprise to see owners coming out with force against the government plans, as top-flight clubs will stand to lose most from the change.
Sullivan told Kaveh Solhekol on Sky that it was a “terrible” plan with it simply being a waste of time and money once it starts to grow each year in power and size.
“Wider than that, the Premier League do not want independent regulation,” he exclusively told West Ham Zone.
“That is pretty clear and most of the clubs would subscribe to that as well. We know that there will be meetings taking place where they have all spoken about this and you can see the public response from some of these owners.

“It’s no surprise to see that now become more public as this rolls along with more momentum, and I still think the Premier League, if they cannot block it, then they will look to dilute and make sure they don’t give away as much as people are wanting them to do.
“Let’s wait and see but no surprise to see the owners coming out and being really forceful against this now because the Premier League clubs stand to lose the most in money terms so you can understand the argument.”
Sullivan has made it very clear where he stands, but there appears to be little he can do to stop the independent regulator from coming into play.
It has made sure that all eyes will be on West Ham United as this progresses.
