David Moyes and coaching staff fear they will be sacked by West Ham United if they lose v Southampton

David Moyes and his coaching staff fear they will be sacked by West Ham if they lose their Premier League clash with Southampton this weekend, say the Daily Mail.

The Hammers are currently sitting in the relegation zone, one point adrift of safety in the Premier League after a poor season, but owner David Sullivan so far has stood by Moyes and trusted him to guide the team to safety.

But despite surviving the international break, fans are against the manager right now and he fears that another bad result against Southampton this weekend could be enough to sway the owner to fire him.

“Contacts close to the staff have revealed their concerns, particularly if supporters turn on the manager at the London Stadium this weekend,” they wrote (29 March).

Too late

The international break was the absolute perfect time to let Moyes go, bring someone new into the club and give them time to work with the players before the next run of games.

Now that the club haven’t pulled the trigger on sacking Moyes, West Ham have a run of fixtures that are simply must win games starting with Southampton on Sunday (2 April).

They follow that up with another home game against Newcastle, before playing Fulham away, Arsenal at home and Bournemouth away.

In order to move away from the relegation battle and justify the decision to keep Moyes around for now, West Ham need to suffer a maximum of one defeat in those five games and win at least two of them to be realistic.

The way we’ve played this season that seems very unlikely and fans are right to be calling for the manager’s head and to be worried for our future in the division.
