Dharmesh Sheth drops £35m West Ham United and Manchester City agreement details over Kalvin Phillips transfer
Dharmesh Sheth has dropped an update on West Ham United’s agreement with Manchester City over the signing of Kalvin Phillips, suggesting the Hammers’ buy option will be within the region of £35million.
David Moyes’ side have agreed a deal to sign the 28-year-old midfielder on loan from the Premier League champions for the remainder of the season, and Phillips is set to undergo a medical on Wednesday (24 January).
However, should West Ham be keen to extend the England international’s time in East London beyond the end of the campaign, they can activate an option to buy clause in the deal, which Sky Sports’ Sheth believes will be around £35million.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Wednesday (24 January 19:11) he said: “It is a loan deal until the end of the sea, but we understand that West Ham United do have an option to make that deal a permanent deal in the summer.
“A price on that option is not out there, but one person has told me it’s in the region of around £35million. There’s no real rush to get it done and over the line by the weekend because it’s FA Cup weekend and West Ham United are out.
“The next game that they do have is on deadline day night against Bournemouth at the London Stadium and as long as Kalvin Phillips is registered by midday on Wednesday (31 January) he is available to be part of that squad.”
Wait and see
West Ham have set themselves up well with this deal as they have not committed too much financially yet and are instead keeping the ball in their court when it comes to Phillips’ long-term future.
Manchester City paid more than £35million to sign the England international from Leeds United 18 months ago, so in the grand scheme of things, the buy-option available to the Hammers is an excellent potential avenue.

Now it is up to the 28-year-old to show the Irons why he is deserving of a permanent move to East London. Ultimately his future at club level remains entirely within his hands for the next six months.
Hopefully, he’ll hit the ground running immediately under Moyes’ management and rediscover the form he showed at Leeds United. If does that, activating that £35million option won’t even be a question come the end of the season.
