West Ham United have ‘significant’ interest in Youssouf Fofana, want to use Tim Steidten’s knowledge of Europe

West Ham have a “significant” interest in Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana this summer as they look to exploit Tim Steidten’s knowledge of Europe, according to 90min.

Writing on their website (17 July), the Hammers have been credited with interest in the France international after he starred at the World Cup in Qatar last season.

And the club are now looking to use new director of football Steidten’s extensive knowledge and connections in Europe to seal a deal for him as they look for the best value for money signing to replace Declan Rice.

“Youssouf Fofana of Monaco is also emerging as a player of significant interest to West Ham,” they wrote.

“The 24-year-old, who made his international debut for France last year and played in six of Les Bleus’ seven games at the 2022 World Cup, has significant experience of playing in the Europa League and early stages of the Champions League, and could represent far better value for money should West Ham look to exploit Steidten’s knowledge of the European market.”

Movement

West Ham are finally active in the transfer window after the sale of Declan Rice went through, and obviously midfield is a major priority for the summer.

Fofana is a fantastic age and a great profile for the Premier League, but Monaco know the talent they have on their hands and he’s unlikely to be a super cheap option.

However it’s also fair to say that Premier League clubs have got a lot of money and what represents good value to us could be seen as a good deal for Monaco simultaneously.

ExWHUemployee has already admitted that the club are likely to make verbal offers for several midfielders in the coming days and Fofana was named, and it’s now time for Steidten to show why he got the job.

His European experience was clearly a big factor in that and if he can help us bring in those top players from abroad for moderate fees, then it’s a job well done.

In other West Ham news, verbal offers considered as Moyes makes move for midfield signings.
