David Moyes sack update after West Ham United 5-1 thrashing v Newcastle United – Jacob Steinberg
David Moyes’ job as West Ham manager is “more vulnerable than ever” after they were thrashed 5-1 by Newcastle, according to Jacob Steinberg.
The Hammers were battered at the London Stadium on Wednesday (5 April), leaving the team outside the relegation zone on goal difference alone with ten games to go in the season.
The board so far have backed the manager to turn things around and have admitted that they don’t see an ideal replacement available, but according to The Guardian’s Steinberg he could now face the chop although there are no guarantees.
“David Moyes’ position as West Ham manager more vulnerable than ever today but there’s no guarantee of a change yet,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (6 April).
“Problem remains who takes over.”
Get rid
At this point the replacement is not that important, because nobody could do a worse job than Moyes is doing.
The likes of Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter are now available to take over and while it’s a long shot to get them in at this stage of the season, it should at least be explored.

But the reality of the situation is that Moyes can’t be the manager going forward because the players have stopped responding to him and his methods.
The run in Europe is only happening because the opposition we’re coming up against is nowhere near our level of quality, and the only Premier League games we’re winning are against the teams struggling more than us.
We can’t afford to leave this to chance now, and Moyes has to go. That’s the most important thing, then the process for a new manager can start.
Even someone like Sam Allardyce or Harry Redknapp, with their experience, would be a better shout for the run-in before a more permanent appointment in the summer.
