‘Absolutely nothing’ – Club deny West Ham approach for Gabriel Barbosa – journo

West Ham have made no approach for Brazil striker Gabriel Barbosa according to Flamengo and his agents, journalist Jorge Nicola has confirmed.

The South American star was linked with a January move to the Premier League, with the Hammers believed to have tabled a loan offer according to Sky Sports.

However after a deal failed to materialise in the winter, there has been speculation that David Moyes could return in the summer for a deal which led to the journalist checking for himself.

According to a YouTube video he posted, he has spoken with both Gabigol’s representatives and Flamengo who have all denied any deal being on the table for the 25-year-old.

He says there is ‘no approach, no proposal’, while the club say they have received ‘absolutely nothing’ from West Ham or anyone else.

Firepower

It’s not up for debate that West Ham are desperate for some additional firepower in their squad, with Michail Antonio’s form suffering and the team struggling in front of goal.

‘Gabigol’ has been dubbed as ‘exciting‘ in the past, and would bring some clinical finishing to the team, with the 25-year-old having scored four goals in five games so far this season for Flamengo.

However his previous stint in Europe was a big struggle as he flopped at Inter Milan before returning to his homeland to become the main man.

His attitude has been questioned in the past and whether Moyes would want to bring in someone with a reputation of being a bit of a troublemaker seems unlikely.

But if he can be tamed and nurtured to continue his goalscoring form in the Premier League then he would be a huge improvement for West Ham and a quality addition, so the Hammers should be looking if they aren’t.
