West Ham won’t have Konstantinos Mavropanos contract chance if he handles Crystal Palace threats

West Ham United star Konstantinos Mavropanos will put himself firmly in the shop window if he handles Crystal Palace’s attacking options on Monday night.

The big Greek defender has been one of West Ham’s best players this season, starting 21 of his 25 Premier League appearances.

He’s been a rock in the heart of the Hammers’ defence, and has once again proven that he’s a quality centre-back in English football’s top flight.

Contracted at the London Stadium until the summer of 2028, West Ham are widely reported as being very keen to ink him to a fresh extension to keep him around long-term.

However, it would appear that regardless of the outcome in their fight against relegation, the Hammers look sure to face a significant task of retaining his services beyond this summer’s transfer window.

Konstantinos Mavropanos can boost transfer chance vs Palace

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly keen on Mavropanos, with it currently looking more likely than not that he will be wearing another teams’ colours from next season onwards.

Should Dortmund firm up their reported interest, then turning down the Bundesliga giants would surely prove all but impossible for the Greece international.

However, he will be expected to put any thoughts of a transfer exit to the back of his mind right now, as his current and only focus should be on helping keep West Ham in the Premier League.

Next on the Hammers’ agenda is a trip to Selhurst Park for a London derby clash with Crystal Palace on Monday night, and the Eagles have some dangerous attacking threats in store for Mavropanos.

Jorgen Strand Larsen and Jean-Philippe Mateta are two of the biggest and most physical centre-forwards in the division, and are routinely a handful for any opposition centre-back to cope with.

On top of those two, Ismaila Sarr is a big danger from the attacking midfield area, whilst wing-backs Daniel Munoz and Tyrick Mitchell both love to get forward and contribute in the final third.

So, if Mavropanos, with the help of his West Ham comrades, get the better of Palace’s potent attacking options, then that will really aid his chances of a big club being convinced that he’s a player they need to sign this summer.

At this stage of the season, good and bad performances stick a lot fresher in the mind of transfer chiefs, and with serious interest poised to arrive for him, Mavropanos has a big chance against Palace to show why that’s the case.

How did Mavropanos perform last time vs Crystal Palace?

Of course, this isn’t the first time West Ham nor Mavropanos have met Crystal Palace this season, with the Eagles winning 2-1 in the reverse Premier League fixture back in September 2025.

Mavropanos started for the Irons that day and played the full 90 minutes, with Mateta leading the line for Palace on an afternoon where he and the aforementioned Mitchell got the winning goals.

As per Sofascore, Mavropanos won his only tackle attempt that day, whilst also making seven clearances, five recoveries, two interceptions and one blocked shot respectively.

He also won four of his eight aerial duels and one of his two ground duels, completed 93 per cent of his passes accurately and made 27 carries with the ball in a 73-touches performance.

So, it’s safe to say that a repeat of that display on Monday night would no doubt catch the watching eyes of transfer chiefs looking to secure his services for their team this summer.
