Jarrod Bowen apologises to West Ham fans as vow made in first message post-relegation

Jarrod Bowen has apologised to West Ham United fans after what he describes as the worst moment of his career in being relegated.

The England international was one of West Ham’s better performers in 2025-26 but ultimately skippered the side to relegation.

West Ham will contest outside the Premier League for the first time in 14 years, with Sunday’s 3-0 win over Leeds United not enough to keep the Irons up.

Bowen has already been linked with numerous clubs, but right now he is still coming to terms with West Ham’s relegation.

Amid that ongoing transfer chatter, the fan favourite has now taken to social media to post a message to supporters.

Jarrod Bowen ’embarrassed’ after West Ham relegation

Bowen will not be short of suitors if he leaves West Ham, but there is still hope that the skipper will stay for at least another year.

The 29-year-old is clearly hurt by the Hammers’ relegation, but he has made clear the East London club will be back in the big time before long.

“It’s hard to post something like this when all you’re feeling is embarrassment and pain,” he wrote on Instagram on Tuesday morning.

“I could write loads trying to explain where it all went wrong this season, but honestly what you deserve from me is an apology.

“Winning that trophy in Prague was the best night of my career. Sunday was the worst. We just weren’t good enough. Simple as that. And that’s why the season ended the way it did.

“To the fans, you didn’t let us down once. The support home and away never changed, even when things weren’t good enough from us on the pitch. We should have given you more. You deserved more.

“One thing I know about this club is that it has the desire and fight to bounce back from this. This club belongs in the Premier League and deserves to be back there as soon as possible.”

While Bowen fell short of saying he intends to stick around, the fact he holds the club so close to his heart – and vice-versa – can only bode well.

Bowen situation not as clear-cut as it appears

There will definitely be interest in Bowen, but the question is whether his heart rules over his head. Or if he even has the choice if West Ham push for a sale to raise funds.

That is what this could all come down to. David Sullivan, a man under intense pressure right now, knows funds need to be raised.

Selling Mateus Fernandes will help, as will a few others, but it may take a second big-money sale to help balance the books.

First thing’s first, West Ham need to know where Bowen’s head is right now. Then it is down to the club to come up with a plan – and quick.

Too often these transfers can go right until the final day of the window, or indeed the final seconds, which is not a position West Ham can dare find themselves in.

West Ham need to get their house in order and then seriously attack the Championship, whether that is with Bowen or without him.
