Crysencio Summerville has chance to force West Ham exit as World Cup announcement drops

Crysencio Summerville faces an uncertain future at West Ham United moving into the summer.

The 24-year-old had a patchy campaign at the London Stadium, but did still manage to show some true flashes of brilliance.

His true quality came to the fore when Nuno Espirito Santo came in and played a role in the upturn in form throughout January, February and March.

That tailed off somewhat towards the end of the campaign as fitness continued to take a toll on his spell in claret and blue.

Summerville could now be in the shop window at West Ham after relegation, with the World Cup acting as the perfect way to help him force through a big summer move.

Crysencio Summerville included in the Netherlands World Cup squad

There have been calls over the years for the attacking midfielder to earn a place in his national team squad after spells in the youth sides.

He has already featured for the under-21s, 19s, 18s and 17s since 2018, but has never made the step up to the senior level.

That has come as a surprise this season with his performances arguably being their best since his move from Leeds United in the summer of 2024.

Summerville has finally been rewarded for his excellence in claret and blue with a spot in Ronald Koeman’s World Cup squad ahead of the summer.

Even after relegation, he has done enough to sneak in alongside the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Memphis Depay, Ryan Gravenberch and Frenkie de Jong for the Oranje.

West Ham may see that as a boost for Summerville, but it may prove to be the way that he finds a route out of East London, ready for the new campaign.

Where could Summerville go if he leaves West Ham?

With the Hammers dropping into the Championship, there is going to be plenty of players eyeing a move elsewhere.

Summerville is certainly one of those, especially now that he is going to have a World Cup under his belt when he returns to E20.

A good tournament could only increase the interest in his signature, especially with Serie A giants Roma already showing interest.

There is also bound to be links with a return to the Premier League, with many sides likely to take a look at him in the coming weeks and months.

The only boost for the Irons is that Summerville doesn’t have a relegation release clause, so any positive performances at the World Cup will only allow them to increase their asking price.

The pressure is now on the former Leeds United star to prove his worth on the international stage to try and earn a move elsewhere.
