West Ham relegation chances shift in latest supercomputer prediction after Crystal Palace draw

West Ham United‘s hopes of staying in the Premier League have been further enhanced following a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace this Monday.

The Hammers were unable to break the deadlock at Selhurst Park, as Taty Castellanos and Konstantinos Mavropanos both came close to getting on the scoresheet once again.

Nuno Espirito Santo doesn’t seem too moved by the result and will know that, whatever way you look at it, more points are needed.

The Irons are currently 17th in the Premier League with a two point gap on Spurs who occupy the final spot in the drop zone.

Either way, West Ham’s hopes of survival have been boosted by the draw against the Eagles, as Opta have further damaged Spurs’ chances of staying in the top flight.

West Ham draw increases Tottenham’s relegation chances

West Ham face an old friend in David Moyes and his Everton side next, and it would be typical for the former Hammers boss to sink his old side.

Going into the clash against the Toffees, the Hammers have had a boost with their own chances of survival, according to Opta’s last prediction on 12 April.

Now, Opta have predicted West Ham with a 36.90 per cent chance of relegation, which is a 1.45 per cent decrease from before the draw.

More importantly, the result has seen Tottenham’s chance of relegation increase by 13.43 per cent, all the way to 58.33 per cent.

As seen in the graphic above, Opta have also predicted the Hammers to finish on 38.54 points, with Spurs predicted to finish on 36.88.

The sweet spot for survival is usually 40 points, so a couple more wins will be needed from now until the end of the campaign.

The final tweak Nuno needs to make to guarantee survival

West Ham went from looking like they couldn’t stop scoring against Wolves to looking unable to create a decent chance versus Crystal Palace.

The Hammers created just 0.61 in terms of expected goals through a low nine shots on goal, with four of them being on target.

Pablo played in behind Castellanos, and looks completely useless for the Irons in the Premier League right now, as the Brazilian is wasting a spot in the final third.

Nuno needs to replace him with either Callum Wilson or Adama Traore if he wishes to shuffle things up, as West Ham would then have a better chance at victory.
