Tony Cottee raises important relegation point in West Ham message ahead of Leeds
Tony Cottee is “dreading” the possibility of West Ham United being relegated on Sunday.
It all comes down to the final day for West Ham, as Hammers supporters everywhere brace themselves for a nervy afternoon of Premier League action.
Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side will be relegated if they fail to beat Leeds United at the London Stadium, but can still survive if they are to win.
However, Tottenham must lose to Everton, as a Spurs draw is sure to keep them in the Premier League due to their far superior goal difference.
The final day of the season always comes with twists, turns, nerves and excitement, and it could all end with West Ham back in the Championship for the first time since 2012.

What did Tony Cottee say about West Ham’s final day?
West Ham have a strong record against Leeds when it comes to their meetings in league football over the years, and they will need that trend to continue on Sunday.
2025-26 has been a hugely disappointing season whatever happens on the final day, with a huge amount of work ahead regardless of what division the Irons are plying their trade in for next season.

| Wins | 2 |
| Draws | 9 |
| Defeats | 7 |
Ahead of Sunday’s 4pm kick-off, West Ham legend, Cottee, has taken to his official X account to share his thoughts on what may lie ahead on the final day.
He also raised an important point for Hammers supporters to remember if things do go wrong on Sunday, and that is that Nuno’s men won’t have today’s result to blame if they do indeed drop into the second tier.
“Well here we are…. Dreading today but we MUST win and then go through the emotions together!” Cottee wrote.
“All I can say is you get relegated because of the 38 games and not today…
“I so hope we can send Spurs down but I’m not doing a prediction, as they’ve not been good all season! COYI.”
Leeds are far from ideal final day opponent for West Ham
Sitting 14th in the Premier League table ahead of kick-off on the final day, Leeds United have comfortably secure their place in the top flight for 2026-27.
As such, Daniel Farke’s side don’t come into the game with West Ham with any real pressure on their shoulders.

That could be seen as a positive for the Hammers, as Nuno’s side should be able to set the tempo of the game and show more energy and hunger.
However, playing these teams who have nothing riding on the result can be so, so dangerous for a side in a position like the Irons, as their ability to play with freedom could set up a quality Whites performance.
