Callum Wilson: Nuno Espirito Santo will only have himself to blame if West Ham are relegated
Callum Wilson has been constantly overlooked by Nuno Espirito Santo this season, for which he could be sorry for if West Ham United are relegated.
The 34-year-old striker has had an, interesting, 2025-26 season at the London Stadium to say the least.
Wilson looked set to leave West Ham in the January transfer window, with the two parties at one point being in advanced talks to terminating his contract early before it expires this summer.
However, a resolution was reached that ensured he’d remain as a Hammer for the remainder of this season.
And so, with four games to go in West Ham’s Premier League campaign, Wilson must still be wondering what he has to do to play a larger role in Nuno’s team.

How impactful has Callum Wilson been for West Ham?
Wilson scored the winning goal against Everton last time out, coming off the bench with a little under 10 minutes to play before netting in the 92nd minute.
That strike prevented West Ham from falling into the relegation zone last weekend, with Tottenham also winning away at Wolves.

| Minutes played | 9 |

| Goals | 1 |
| Expected goals (xG) | 0.38 |

However, despite his proven ability to score goals at Premier League level with the likes of Newcastle and Bournemouth respectively, he’s more often than not been snubbed of opportunities to do exactly that for West Ham this season.
As per FotMob, Wilson is by far and away the most efficient goalscorer in Nuno’s side this term, with his 0.5 goals per 90 double that of his closest Irons rivals Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek, who both have 0.24 respectively.
On top of that, and despite the fact he’s only started 10 league games with just over 1,000 minutes on the pitch in 2025-26, he also leads the West Ham team for expected goals with 6.9.

His 1.1 shots on target, 2.8 shots and 0.58 expected goals per 90 are all the best of any Hammers player this term too, highlighting just how big of an impact he has on games when given the chance.
Nuno needs to put Castellanos and Pablo loyalties aside
The January transfer window saw a pair of strikers in Taty Castellanos and Pablo make moves to West Ham.
Castellanos has bagged four goals in 14 Premier League appearances, whilst Pablo has been unable to find the net in his opening 13 games in all competitions respectively.
Both players possess clear potential, and particularly in Castellanos’ case, they have brought energy and industry to West Ham’s forward line.

However, what West Ham need right now more than anything is production and results, and it’s clear by his numbers that the best player to provide that is Wilson.
Nuno is loyal to Castellanos and Pablo as they are his signings whereas Wilson isn’t, but if he can’t put those loyalties aside for the sake of giving Wilson more opportunities and the Club are relegated, then he can’t blame anyone but himself in this regard.
