West Ham get answers to ‘seismic shock’ as Arsenal controversy has financial ramifications
West Ham United are set to suffer financially from possible Premier League relegation on the back of their controversial loss to Arsenal last weekend.
The Hammers though they had snatched a point at the London Stadium when Callum Wilson’s stoppage-time effort crossed Arsenal’s goaline.
However, following a VAR and on-field check by the referee, the Irons had their goal chalked off for a controversial foul on goalkeeper David Raya.
Arsenal could be set to benefit financially from the win, but the opposite end of the spectrum could see Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side suffer.
West Ham’s financial implications will be significant in comparison to what Arsenal may benefit from the talked-about decision, suggests Kieran Maguire.

While speaking on the Price of Football podcast, finance expert Maguire explained how the Arsenal controversy may have a knock-on effect for the pockets of Sullivan and Co.
Maguire said: “There are consequences that have financial ramifications. The implications for West Ham are far more significant; relegation will result in broadcast revenue dropping £70m or £80m, and they’ll struggle to sell out.
“I have been asked by some West Ham fans as to whether this will be a seismic shock to the club, the answer is no. They have attractive, saleable inventory. The money going out has fallen, but the money coming in will have taken a tumble.”
Maguire also pointed out how Arsenal are in line for a £3million boost from winning the Premier League, while a slight nudge in distributions from the Champions League next season.

West Ham are currently the heavy favourites to go down in 18th place, as Tottenham are now unbeaten in four games under Roberto De Zerbi.
However, it sounds like, if the Hammers are relegated, there are four players who could keep the club financially out of trouble.
These four players could keep West Ham financially stable
West Ham would need a major clearout this summer if they were relegated, as multiple players would want to leave, and need to leave.
Jarrod Bowen is the most obvious departure, with the suggestions that the club captain will leave, regardless of what division West Ham are in next season.
Another player linked with a move away is Konstantinos Mavropanos, who already looks set to leave the Irons, with Borussia Dortmund keen.

Mateus Fernandes could be West Ham’s biggest sale, with Manchester United, Arsenal, and other Premier League clubs on alert, while Crysencio Summerville would most likely depart for a hefty fee.
