West Ham United could still welcome Jamie Vardy to the London Stadium.

The ex-England international remains a free agent after leaving Cremonese at the end of last season.

His surprise spell in Italy ended in relegation, but did consist of nine goals and assists in 29 Serie A outings.

That has piqued interest in East London throughout the summer and all the way to deadline day.

A deal could still go through for Vardy as the Irons remain in the race for his signature.

When could Jamie Vardy green-light West Ham move?

There has been a general frustration surrounding the summer for the claret and blue outfit.

Things could yet take a step up with hours left until the window slams shut.

That won't impact a move for Vardy as free transfers can be agreed beyond that deadline.

The Hammers could seek to benefit from that as they remain interested in the former Leicester City star.

Rob Dorsett reported on Tuesday that Vardy is waiting until after the transfer window closes to make a decision on his future.

The Sky Sports journalist has said that an offer from West Ham remains "possible", while the same can be said about Sheffield Wednesday, Sao Paulo and unnamed MLS interest.

That doesn't place a timeline on a deal as it all hinges on a final call from the one-time Premier League champion.

How Taty Castellanos will impact Vardy free transfer

It is highly likely that the Englishman is delaying a deal to assess how interested parties are faring in their respective divisions.

The E20 outfit are struggling in the Championship right now and that may prove to be enticing to Vardy.

That will only be the case if he can see himself picking up regular minutes in claret and blue.

Should Taty Castellanos step up in the coming days or weeks, that could scupper things for the Irons.

It will certainly be interesting to see what decision Vardy makes and how that will impact Nuno Espirito Santo and Co.
