Mohamadou Kante could be in line for a new contract at West Ham United.

The 21-year-old is emerging as a key component of Nuno Espirito Santo's squad this season.

Kante joined from Paris FC in the summer of 2024, but was immediately loaned back to the French club.

He would make 11 Premier League appearances last term as the Hammers suffered relegation from the top flight.

Kante has already made 11 across all competitions this season for the Irons, scoring three goals in the process.

And now West Ham could be about to open up new talks despite Kante already having a long-term deal.

Why are West Ham planning to give Mohamadou Kante a new contract?

Kante showcased his growing influence in the comeback 2-2 draw with rivals Millwall prior to the international break.

He scored West Ham's first goal, which preceded Konstantinos Mavropanos scoring a dramatically equaliser to spark wild celebrations in the away end at the den.

Kante would later get sent off, committing a professional foul after making an error, in a challenge that took one for the team.

However, Kante is now a prominent figure in the West Ham side, and a report from the Athletic says that talks over a new contract are being planned.

Kante already has a deal that runs until 2031 at the London Stadium, which was agreed last October, but the Athletic reports that a source close to the situation says new terms will be agreed.

According to the report, West Ham are planning to offer Kante a more lucrative deal to reflect his standing in the squad.

Mohamadou Kante turnaround almost complete at West Ham

A new deal for Kante would be just reward for his excellent start to the campaign.

And it completes a bit of a turnaround from the summer transfer window.

Back in the summer, it was reported that Kante could be on his way out of the London Stadium, with the 21-year-old attracting interest from elsewhere

But now, it is evident that Kante has a big role to play in West Ham's attempt to return to the Premier League.

There is still an element that Kante needs to continue learning his craft, but at West Ham he is going to have ample time to do that.
