Why Roma are making West Ham Crysencio Summerville move as admiration revealed
Roma don't appear willing to sit on their hands over a move for West Ham United star Crysencio Summerville any longer.
It's starting to feel as though we're close to learning Summerville's transfer fate this summer.
Ever since West Ham's relegation to the Championship, it's been expected that the Netherlands international would leave the London Stadium.
Summerville has been linked with a big Premier League move, but interest from Serie A giants Roma has also been bubbling away in the background.
The Hammers could probably do with getting his sale finalised to give transfer chiefs enough time to reinvest into Nuno Espirito Santo's squad.
And, it seems as though Roma are now ready to help accelerate Summerville's transfer saga towards the finishing line.
Roma's true admiration for Crysencio Summerville revealed
Having starred in the Premier League last season despite West Ham's relegation, it's no surprise to see clubs across European football circling Summerville.
West Ham Zone has previously covered reports linking Summerville to Roma, but the Italian outfit appears to have several targets, as well as the Irons star.
But, according to a report from Italian transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Dutchman may have moved to the top of their list.
It's claimed that Summerville has had his admirers in the Italian capital for a long time now, and that Roma are ready to finally make their move to secure his signature.
Italian outlet Romagiallorossa.it previously reported that Roma had Summerville's name in mind as an alternative to Mason Greenwood.
The Marseille forward is now widely reported to be closing in on a move to Fenerbahce, and so it would seem that the Italians are now putting this plan in motion.
Summerville may wish to swerve a move to Roma, however, as the 24-year-old might not be an obvious tactical fit in Gian Piero Gasperini's system.
What formation does Gasperini play at Roma?
A versatile attacker, Summerville has predominantly found his success as a left winger with West Ham.
He can operate across the forward line, but without doubt seems to play his best football from out wide.
However, should he sign for Roma, Gasperini may not be able to accommodate him in his team as a winger.
That's because the 68-year-old exclusively set his side up in a back three last season, and has favoured this approach for many years now.
As a result, wing-backs play a big part under him, and it seems hard to imagine Summerville being happy taking such a big risk in his career at this stage to go and play there in Serie A, when he'd surely have other opportunities to remain in a winger role.
Summerville can play through the middle as an attacking midfielder or as a striker if needed, but again, both he and Roma would be taking a big gamble should that be the plan for him.
Therefore, whilst the proposition of playing for one of Serie A's biggest and most historic clubs may well be attractive to Summerville, the Italian capital may not be the wisest destination after all.
