Why Max Kilman will be delighted as West Ham's transfer window winners and losers analysed

West Ham United completed a late flurry of deals in the transfer window, with Max Kilman leaving feeling confident.

The Hammers took their time to get deals over the line, and in the end completed nine signings.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping that is enough to push for promotion, and early signs point to that business working.

While the Irons had a slow start to the season, things are now beginning to pick up, with three wins from the last four.

However, with the transfer window closed, there will be many in the squad that have come out stronger than before.

While for others, they will not be feeling best pleased with how it ended.

Why Max Kilman is one of West Ham biggest winners from summer window

Kilman's West Ham career has yet to truly take off and the Englishman has routinely been named as a flop following his £40million move in 2024.

The price tag has never helped the centre-back, and he has failed to live up to th expectations placed on him.

However, a season down in the Championship may be exactly what Kilman needed to regain his confidence and show why West Ham originally brought him in.

Last season, Kilman dropped dramatically down the pecking order. He went from a starting central defender to not starting a Premier League game from 3 January onwards.

It felt like Nuno had given up on Kilman, and it would not have been a shock to see him depart and replaced.

But in the 2026-27 season so far, Kilman is starting to redeem himself. He has been a solid performer for the E20 outfit, and has started all five league matches.

The summer window also saw West Ham fail to sign Axel Disasi, with Jean-Clair Todibo heading out on loan.

So, Kilman has gone from being out of favour to becoming a starting defender once more during the transfer window.

Edson Alvarez and Soungoutou Magassa lose out at West Ham

On the opposite spectrum, Edson Alvarez and Soungoutou Magassa may not be feeling too good about how the transfer window ended.

The Mexican has so far failed to secure a move out of E20, although there are still a few transfer windows open elsewhere.

If Alvarez does not depart, it seems hard to see where he would fit into Nuno's plans, and he may have to wait until January before he can play another game.

Magassa is in the same boat after he wished to leave, but his reintegration could be a lot smoother.

The Frenchman has yet to feature this season, and he was only named in one West Ham squad so far in 2026-2027 - the Carabao Cup win versus Southampton.

But, if he knuckles down in training, and puts the hard work in, then he is a player the Irons could really do with at the moment.
