Why Crysencio Summerville’s West Ham exit could be more complicated than it seems
Crysencio Summerville's potential West Ham exit may have taken a new twist.
The Netherlands winger is widely expected to leave the London Stadium this summer after the Hammers were relegated.
He has seen interest from the likes from Manchester United and Tottenham, but so far a move has not materialised.
Summerville's West Ham future is likely to be addressed when he returns from the World Cup.
That is not for another few weeks, as he is entitled to a 21-day break after his participation in the tournament.
However, there could be an issue that makes an exit less likely and more complicated.
New Crysencio Summerville doubts emerge as Fulham enter transfer race
Fulham have entered the race to sign Summerville, and the Hammers accept that they will struggle to keep him.
That information is included in a report from The Guardian on Friday, but it also states that there are doubts over the winger.
It claims that his consistency and durability at the elite level could come under question, which is what is stopping the likes of Tottenham and the Red Devils from pulling the trigger.
It suggests that "an ambitious team from outside the elite" could be the right answer for the 24-year-old.
What do those doubts mean for Summerville and West Ham?
The ideal scenario for the Hammers would be that those doubts stop interested clubs from trying to sign Summerville, and he stays in Claret and Blue for another season.
A player with his quality would be an absolute joke in the Championship, as he is better than he was in his previous stint in the division with Leeds.
He notched 19 goals and nine assists in 43 appearances in the second tier with Leeds, and would likely smash those numbers out of the park if he stuck around.
That does not seem to be a realistic option, though, and surely someone will take a punt on the Irons star before the window closes.
It seems much more likely that a club uses those doubts to try and drag the E20 side's asking price down, and try to get a bargain deal.
The Hammers can't let that happen, they need to extract true value if they are to sell the Dutch ace as they are in control of the situation.
