Why Celtic will never actually see multiple millions of Arne Engels fee from West Ham

West Ham have a deal in place to sign Arne Engels, but Celtic are not the only team that will profit.

The Belgium international is to join West Ham for a Championship-record fee of £22million.

That is assuming he first passes his medical, which is due to take place on Friday.

Engels has lit up the Scottish Premiership with Celtic, as well as European competitions, and will now look to do likewise in the second tier south of the border.

West Ham have signalled their intent for the campaign with the record transfer.

And further details have now emerged regarding the smaller financial details of the deal.

Celtic won't get the full £22m sum for Arne Engels

Celtic signed Engels from Augsburg in a reported £11million deal two years ago.

The 22-year-old has more than paid off that fee, with Celtic doubling that sum of money.

However, as per Sky Sports Germany, Augsburg are in line for a 10-per-cent sell-on payment.

That means they will land roughly £2.2m, which will go directly to them from West Ham before it lands in Celtic's bank account.

The Scottish side will not care a great deal, though, as they are still making an eight-figure profit on Engels.

What is left to do for Engels deal?

Engels' West Ham medical is scheduled to take place on Friday.

Assuming that is passed, the Hammers then have until Midday on Saturday to register the midfielder in time to face Burnley on Sunday.

Personal terms have been agreed with the player and the fee is locked in with Celtic.

As of Friday lunchtime, then, it is just a case of sitting tight and waiting for that confirmation announcement to drop.

West Ham may have taken their time to get business done this summer, but this is a signing that surely means first place is the only aim this campaign.
