Why a compromise is needed as sticking point emerges in permanent Niclas Fullkrug West Ham exit
West Ham United remain keen to find a solution for the permanent sale of Niclas Fullkrug.
The Germany striker arrived from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2024 in a reported £27million deal.
However, Fullkrug proved a flop at the London Stadium, as injuries and lack of form plagued his time in East London.
Consequently, he was shipped out on loan to Milan in January, but he fared little better in Serie A.
But the 33-year-old has been revitalised during a loan move back in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen.
Bremen are keen to make his move permanent, but a sticking point has been shared that will require a compromise.
What compromise needs to be made for Niclas Fullkrug to leave West Ham?
West Ham fan's will barely believe that the Fullkrug playing for Bremen is the same one that regularly shambled his way through games for the Hammers.
The veteran striker has scored seven goals in as many competition outings this term, with six coming in the Bundesliga.
His form has led to suggestions that Jurgen Klopp could recall him to the Germany national team.
Fullkrug's club future is still shrouded in some doubt, though, as there is no purchase option with Bremen over a full transfer.
West Ham expert ExWhuEmployee told the West Ham Way patreon that the Hammers are willing to accept a nominal fee to sell Fullkrug, who is under contract until 2028.
The Irons are keen to offload Fullkrug, but his wages are proving an obstable to a sale and as such he will need to compromise if he is to get his wish for a permanent sale.
ExWhuEmployee said: "Fullkrug is impressing on his loan spell with Werder Bremen, which ultimately is good for West Ham.
“We already know they are keen to keep him and we understand that West Ham are happy to let him go for a minimal fee to get him off the books.
“The issue will be wages, so a compromise from the player’s side will be needed should he want the move to be permanent.”
Niclas Fullkrug has simple decision to make at West Ham
You can understand why a player would not want to take a paycut.
But Fullkrug risks being stuck in complete limbo if he doesn't accept a compromise to join Bremen on a permanent deal.
Both West Ham and Fullkrug want to call it quits at this juncture, and he has found an environment where he can flourish.
It should be a simple decision, but sadly we know these things are never quite that straight-forward.
For the good of his career, though, Fullkrug will have to give serious consideration to bending his demands.
