West Ham United are honing in on the signing of Joel Piroe.

Nuno Espirito Santo is yet to add a new striker to his West Ham ranks this summer.

The importance of doing so isn't lost on the Hammers boss, especially after Pablo picked up a calf injury against Burnley.

As a result, Taty Castellanos is the only natural and fit senior centre-forward, driving home West Ham's urgency to sign a striker ASAP.

Both Troy Parrott and Piroe have been strongly linked with moves to the London Stadium recently.

However, it now appears that it's the latter who the Irons are pushing to acquire the signature of.

How close are West Ham to agreeing Joel Piroe deal?

Piroe has fallen out of favour with Leeds United since their promotion to the Premier League.

The Suriname international started just twice in the Premier League last season, and failed to find the net in 16 appearances.

However, 2024-25 saw the 27-year-old finish that season as the Championship's top scorer, netting 19 times in 46 games.

So, he could be a big difference-maker in West Ham's pursuit of promotion, and he could even be an Irons player in a matter of hours.

The West Ham Way have claimed on Monday that a deal for Piroe is "very close", and that it's set to be a loan with the obligation to buy.

It's stated that a deal could even be agreed on Monday, whilst his Hammers medical could take place as early as Tuesday.

But is Piroe West Ham's first choice target at the striker spot, or would they perhaps prefer it if Parrott signed instead?

Why West Ham may have shown Parrott favouritism hand

Many West Ham fans are sure to be happy seeing either Piroe or Parrott signed this summer.

However, London Stadium chiefs may just prefer a move for the latter in an ideal world.

As shared by The West Ham Way, talks over a deal for Parrott resumed on Sunday evening.

It's stated, however, that those discussions didn't progress, as West Ham tried again to agree a fee with PSV for the 24-year-old.

So, whilst Piroe is a quality and proven addition at Championship level, maybe West Ham aren't getting their leading striker target after all.
