Lukasz Fabianski looks on course to depart West Ham for the second time in two years.

After the 2024-2025 season, the Polish goalkeeper unceremoniously departed London Stadium. The 41-year-old has become a cult hero in E20, and his departure last season left a bitter taste in fans' mouths.

Supporters felt that Graham Potter should have handed him an appearance on the final day of the season to say goodbye, but he had to watch from the bench.

He eventually returned in September on a one-year deal as third-choice goalkeeper.

Now, ahead of his second exit for the Hammers, the question has been posed to him on if he could remain.

The 41-year-old issued a blunt response to the question as speculation continues to swirl.

What is next for Lukasz Fabianski?

Fabianski has previously shared a wish that he would be open to working for West Ham's academy.

However, when asked if that could be a role he steps into anytime soon, he has remained coy on his future.

In an interview with Polish outlet, Przegladsportowy, he directly responded stating: "Calm down - just a little more patience and everything will become clear."

Of course, he has not given much away on if a new adventure as an academy coach is on the agenda.

Fabianski has opened a goalkeeping school with fellow Polish shot-stopper Artur Boruc, so moving into that area of football appears to be of high interest.

And, if that is the case, another return after his contract officially expires on 1 July, may not entirely be off the cards.

Fabianski and West Ham could yet have plenty more stories to write heading into the future.

Is Fabianski leaning towards retirement?

At 41 years old, it would not be a surprise to see the West Ham ace hang up both his boots and gloves.

But, as he did with his potential future at West Ham, his response is less than definitive.

In the same interview, Fabianski stated: "I haven't announced the end of my football career yet. All I want to say is that if I make a specific decision, I will definitely announce everything."

Unfortunately, as he winds down the final years of his career, the Hammers star did miss out on a dream.

With 376 appearances in the top flight of English football, the highest of any pole, he did want to push to reach the 400 mark.

But, it was not to be. However, Fabianski with the option of taking on that academy role, could help mould the next generation of goalkeepers at Rush Green, and one could hit that 400 appearance target.
