What Jose Mourinho said about Harry Kane comparisons as West Ham want Troy Parrott

Jose Mourinho has always seen the potential in West Ham United transfer target Troy Parrott.

The Hammers are hoping to add several new signings to their ranks this summer, with the start of the Championship closing in.

Perhaps some of the best business Nuno Espirito Santo has seen is the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek both pledging their commitment to the Irons for the season ahead.

However, with Taty Castellanos' future in the air, a new striker might be needed in E20, with Parrott firmly on the Hammers' radar.

The AZ Alkmaar number nine is attracting plenty of interest across Europe after top-class performances for both club and country.

Now, West Ham have joined the chase for Parrott, who was once tipped to become the next Harry Kane.

West Ham Zone understands that Parrott could cost in excess of £20million, with the Hammers set to make a move.

Though the E20 side face plenty of competition for the Republic of Ireland international, nobody but the Irons are said to be prepared to pay that.

The 24-year-old has truly found his feet in the Netherlands after leaving Tottenham, though Mourinho was the one to hand the Irishman his professional league debut.

Naturally, the striker drew comparisons to Kane, and Mourinho was quick to alleviate the pressure on the young man's shoulders after he missed a penalty in Tottenham's League Cup loss to Norwich City in March of 2020.

The former Spurs boss said, as quoted by BBC Sport: "Don't think that Parrott is the second Kane because he's just a young kid that needs to work."

But the "special one" always knew of Parrott's abilities, and even watched him in a U23s match against Wolves.

Mourinho said, as picked up by The Guardian: "I was so happy with the way he performed, and I’m not speaking about his goal."

The current Real Madrid head coach went on to explain how he was delighted with his attitude, one that Nuno may appreciate at the London Stadium soon.

Would Parrott perform in England after absence?

Tottenham pushed hard for Parrott to develop in England, and immediately followed the same route that Kane went down by loaning him to Millwall.

However, a move to the Lions didn't work out, and the same can be said about stints with Ipswich Town and Preston North End, as he only made somewhat of an impact with MK Dons in League One.

He had a promising loan to Dutch side Excelsior, where AZ Alkmaar took an educated gamble on the forward the following summer, but this time, he left Tottenham permanently.

Parrott has since scored a whopping 51 goals for AZ Alkmaar in 96 games, registering 14 assists, too, with some top performances coming in European matches.

His performances for club and country all but give West Ham assurances that he would make the step up to English football this time around.
