What it means for West Ham's pursuit of Gustavo Sa as Greek transfer twist emerges
West Ham United are facing increasing competition in the battle for Famalicao attacker Gustavo Sa.
The Hammers relegation from the Premier League has led to a really difficult summer transfer window.
Mateus Fernandes was the first to head for the London Stadium exit door, with Tottenham paying £85million to sign him.
Crysencio Summerville has now also exited, with Al-Hilal agreeing a deal that could reach £35m for the Netherlands winger.
So far, the only business done is a full move for Keiber Lamadrid, and there is a desire to bring in reinforcements before the Championship campaign gets underway.
But the move for 21-year-old Sa is now looking increasingly difficult with a new club entering the fray for the attacking midfielder.
What's the latest with West Ham and Gustavo Sa?
It was only a couple of weeks ago that West Ham were said to be on the cusp of getting this deal over the line.
Indeed, West Ham Zone covered reports that West Ham's move for Sa was at the final stages.
However, since then the situation has changed somewhat, with Famalicao have reintegrated him into pre-season, after reports Sporting CP had entered the race to sign him.
Now, Greek outlet Sport24 reports that Olympiacos are now interested in signing the 21-year-old as the competition heats up.
The report adds that there has been talk of a proposal being put forward by the Greek giants.
However, it is mentioned that there are still "English teams" involved in what is shaping up to be a clustered race.
What are the next steps for West Ham with Sa?
The trail in the last couple of weeks has gone a little cold with this one.
It seemed a bit of a formality just a couple of weeks ago, but these things can change extremely quickly in the transfer window.
The Hammers must now decide whether then want to press ahead and try and bring Sa to complement the likes of Jarrod Bowen in their attack.
If not, then they had to quickly look at other targets for Nuno Espirito Santo's squad because time is fast running out before the season starts.
