Troy Parrott has looked to be West Ham United's priority for the number nine position this summer.

The Irish international enjoyed an impressive 2025-2026 campaign and was even open to a move to London Stadium.

A spell in the Championship did not faze the striker who would be set for European football with AZ Alkmaar this season.

Nonetheless, the Hammers have been unable to get this transfer over the line.

West Ham have reportedly backed away from Parrott, with attention turning elsewhere.

And now Parrott's future could still be resolved quite quickly despite that stance from the Irons.

Why Troy Parrot's future is set for swift resolution

Nuno Espirito Santo will undoubtedly be disappointed that the top target for West Ham has seemingly slipped through their fingers.

But if they feel AZ's valuation is too high, West Ham are well in their right to back away from a deal.

For Parrott, news of that transfer collapse will also disappoint him but his next destination may already have emerged.

According to Soccernews, since West Ham stepped away, Real Betis are now positioned as the strongest contenders to sign the Irish forward.

They state that a transfer could go through "very quickly" in the matter of "hours or days."

Talks are now in the "final stages" not too long after West Ham decided to step away.

Of course, for West Ham, that is significant as it would remove any chance of a U-turn for the Irons from now until the end of the window.

If the E20 side changes their minds about offering what AZ wants for the number nine, it could already be too late.

Reports elsewhere have suggested that Joel Piroe is now on West Ham's radar, with the Leeds forward wanting out of Elland Road.

How Joel Piroe can still send West Ham up

Piroe has not had the best of years at Leeds United, with his minutes limited in the Premier League.

However, in 2024-2025, the now-Suriname international took the second division by storm.

The 27-year-old scored 19 goals and picked up seven assists as the Whites marched their way to promotion.

With another season in the Championship, the East Londoners will hope history repeats itsel and that Piroe can help hurdle them towards promotion.

He may not be the most in-form option such as Parrott, but he still has history to show he could be a shrewd pick-up.
