What fans need to know as West Ham United respond to Roma's Crysencio Summerville bid
Roma are still pushing hard to complete the signing of West Ham United ace Crysencio Summerville.
It is fast becoming a matter of when, not if, the Netherlands winger departs London Stadium this summer.
West Ham's relegation from the Premier League last season has seen the 24-year-old keen to explore pastures new.
The likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham, and Aston Villa have all been named among Summerville's suitors.
But Roma have been particularly prominent for Summerville, with the Serie A outfit said to be working towards finding an agreement.
A new update from Fabrizio Romano has provided Hammers fans with more knowledge of where things stand currently.
Roma launch Crysencio Summerville bid as talks ongoing
West Ham Zone this week covered reports that Summerville's representatives had held talks with Roma.
A couple of sticking points were seemingly hit, particularly over West Ham's asking price, and Summerville's own wage demands.
According to prominent Italian journalist Romano, Roma have launched their first bid of around £34million plus add-ons for Summerville.
He says that West Ham have rebuffed that opening bid and that Roma are holding talks about submitting a second offer for Summerville.
Romano noted that Summerville is open to joining Roma, but also noted how news elsewhere might affect the ongoing exit saga.
Aston Villa may have the chance to gazump Roma for Summerville
Interestingly, Roma may now face the prospect of being gazumped by Villa.
It was widely reported on Saturday that Villa have accepted a bid of £117million from Chelsea for Morgan Rogers.
The England international is set to have a medical at Stamford Bridge this week ahead of becoming a marquee signing for new head coach Xabi Alonso.
Romano noted how Villa are interested now that they have agreed to sell Rogers to the Blues.
Roma consquently now potentially face increased competition to get a deal for the ex-Leeds United man done.
In could be good news for West Ham, who may now spot an opportunity to drive up the price for Summerville, who Nuno Espirito Santo once called "almost unstoppable" (BBC Sport).
It was previously suggested that West Ham were looking for around £50m to sell Summerville to Man United, and that would seem a pretty fair price in the current market.
