What Callum Wilson exit tells us about West Ham transfer plans as medical update emerges
Callum Wilson is inching closer to officially completing his West Ham United departure.
It was reported on Monday that veteran striker Wilson is set to leave West Ham for Brentford on a free transfer.
The 34-year-old was close to quitting the London Stadium in the winter transfer window.
He ultimately decided to remain in East London, and scored three goals after the turn of the year.
It had been hinted that Wilson might stay at West Ham following their relegation to the Championship.
But now that will not be happening, and Wilson looks closer than ever to sealing his exit for the Bees.
Callum Wilson medical timeline emerges as West Ham exit close
Wilson joined West Ham on a one-year contract back in August 2025 and scored seven goals in 32 Premier League appearances.
It had appeared that Nuno Espirito Santo was going to try and keep Wilson around for the Hammers' attempt to get back to the top flight.
However, Wilson has been tempted by the promise of Brentford and Premier League football next season, even if he is unlikely to be a regular starter.
BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella has now provided an update on Wilson's move to Brentford on his official X account.
Kinsella tweeted mere to report: "Medical expected tomorrow" in reply to his origian reporting of Wilson's impending move.
What Wilson exit tells us about West Ham plans
It was inevitable that there would be departures from the London Stadium this summer following West Ham's relegation.
Mateus Fernandes has left in an £85million move to Tottenham, and Crysencio Summerville is being linked with Manchester United.
Captain Jarrod Bowen and full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka also face uncertain futures in the coming weeks, with top-flight interest in both.
But losing Wilson certainly represents a blow, because Nuno would likely have been banking on having him at the very least as a back-up option.
It means Nuno is now surely going to have scour the market for more firepower up top, and boost his striker options for a demanding campaign in the second tier.
Had he stayed it might have been one area that did not need as much attention, but now West Ham are going to have to address their striker options.
