West Ham want to seal last-gasp defender transfer before 11pm

West Ham United are still scouring the transfer market for a defender before 11pm on Monday, according to Sean Whetstone.

The Hammers insider shared the news via his West Ham Football X account (3 February), which outlines that the Hammers might not be done with the market just yet.

Graham Potter finally managed to welcome a new number nine to his ranks after a loan deal was struck with Brighton for the transfer of Evan Ferguson.

“West Ham remain in the hunt for centre back cover in the last few hours of the winter transfer window,” Whetstone wrote.

West Ham United need more players than just Evan Ferguson and James Ward-Prowse

While the Hammers’ lack of midfield options may have been solved thanks to the return of James Ward-Prowse from Nottingham Forest, it still feels like Potter’s men could do with one or two new faces being added to their ranks.

West Ham have had it rough this season in the Premier League with the London Stadium outfit often being second-best in each game they played in.

While they may not be directly involved in the top-flight’s relegation battle just yet, it feels like a lot more needs to come from the team as a whole.

And the fact that Potter only has three senior centre-backs among his ranks at the moment is a rather large cause for concern, especially with Jean Clair-Todibo sidelined due to injury.

If one of Max Kilman or Konstantinos Mavropnaos ends up being sidelined too, the Hammers could find themselves in an even worse position than where they currently are.

Which is why bringing in a new defender before 11pm on Monday would be ideal.

In other West Ham news, Ricardo Pepi has agreed a contract following the Hammers’ £21m bid for the striker.
