Tim Sherwood has already labelled Evan Ferguson's move to West Ham the "signing of the window" after sealing a last-gasp loan deal.

The Hammers have now announced the 20-year-old striker's loan until the end of the 2024/25 season, coming into the squad to make an immediate impact following injuries to Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug.

Ferguson has started just two Premier League fixtures this season, having suffered from an injury for the first part of the season, and he has also fallen down the pecking order behind Joao Pedro and Danny Welbeck.

Speaking via Sky Sports News [3 February], Sherwood said: "Evan Ferguson. It's a great signing for West Ham, it's a good move for him as well. For me, that would be the pick for the  signing of the window."

There is no doubt over Ferguson's abilities, but the striker's setbacks have certainly raised a few eyebrows outside of the Amex Stadium.

He scored six goals in back-to-back Premier League seasons, earning his call-up to the Republic of Ireland national team, where he has gained 18 caps and scored four goals.

At just 20 years of age, Ferguson looks to be one of the most promising strikers in the league, and given that the current transfer window has been a bit disappointing, Sherwood might have a point.

It is also a vitally important move for the Hammers and Potter, who would have been desperate to add to the attacking ranks before the transfer window slammed shut at 11pm.

Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus have been entrusted with occupying the space through the middle rather than utilising Danny Ings, which suggests it is only a matter of time before he leaves East London.

With Ferguson now at the club, it may even happen in the next few hours.

In other West Ham news, Ricardo Pepi has agreed a contract following the Hammers' £21m bid for the striker.
